NIDA’s National Drug & Alcohol Facts WeekSM Goes Global!
NDAFW Goes Global as Teens SHATTER THE MYTHS
Teens joined with scientists and drug education advocates at more than 2,000 events across all 50 states and in 10 countries for the sixth annual National Drug & Alcohol Facts WeekSM (NDAFW), held from January 25th – 31st this year. Through community-based events and activities on the web, teens were encouraged to SHATTER THE MYTHS and get the facts from scientific experts about drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Promotional media activities surrounding the week reached millions of people via traditional and social media platforms.
What is National Drug & Alcohol Facts WeekSM?
NDAFW is a week-long observance that links teens with experts who can give them factual information and dispel the myths about drug and alcohol abuse. It was inspired by the success of NIDA’s Drugs & Alcohol Chat Day, which began in 2007. During Chat Day, NIDA scientists receive and answer thousands of questions via a live web chat from teens at registered schools across the country. In response to this demonstrated interest from teens to get the scientific facts about drugs and alcohol, NIDA developed NDAFW, asking teens, schools, and community groups all over America to hold their own “Q and A” events with local experts.

To date, nearly 97,000 people have taken the 2016 IQ Challenge! The IQ Challenge is interactive, and includes English and Spanish videos of NIDA specialists discussing the answers to each question.
