NIDA’s National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week® Sets Record in Global Reach; Chat Day Celebrates 10th Anniversary!

National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week® sets Record in Number of Events Held Across the Nation and Internationally
Teens joined with scientists and drug education advocates at thousands of events across the country and internationally for the seventh annual National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week® (NDAFW), held from January 23-29, 2017. This year, the amount of events held across the country surpassed all previous years, including the largest international reach ever, with more than 125 events held in Mexico alone. Through community-based events and activities on the web, teens were encouraged to SHATTER THE MYTHS® and get the facts from scientific experts about drug and alcohol use and addiction. Promotional media activities surrounding the week reached millions of people via traditional and social media platforms.

What is National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week®?
National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week logo
NDAFW is a week-long observance that links teens with experts who can give them factual information and dispel the myths about drug and alcohol use. It was inspired by the success of NIDA’s Drugs & Alcohol Chat Day, a web chat with teens that began in 2007. NIDA launched NDAFW in 2010, asking teens, schools, and community groups all over America to hold their own “Q and A” events with local experts. NIAAA became a partner in 2016. Read press release ⇒

To date, nearly 48,000 people have taken the 2017 IQ Challenge! The IQ Challenge is interactive, and includes English and Spanish videos of NIDA specialists discussing the answers to each question.
